General terms of purchase Mälartåg

The terms of purchase enter into force from the day they are published on mälartåg.se and apply to purchases completed after this date. For access to previous versions of the terms of purchase, please contact Mälartåg customer service. The conditions are translated from Swedish to English. In case of conflict, the Swedish version is always superior to the English version.

1. Introductory provisions

1.1 Mälartåg is the publicly financed regional train service on five railway lines which Mälardalstrafik MÄLAB AB, org. no 556425-0610, address Centralplan 3, 111 20 Stockholm, (” Mälardalstrafik”), is responsible for (”Mälartåg”).

1.2 These terms of purchase apply to the purchase of tickets in Mälardalstrafik's sales channels, mälartåg.se and Mälartåg app, (“Terms of purchase”), unless otherwise stated.

      1. Terms of purchase for Movingo tickets when purchased in the Movingo app or on https://www.movingobiljett.se is shown by malartag.se/en/terms-and-conditions/movingo-terms-of-purchase/.
      2. Terms of purchase for Mälardalstrafik's owner's tickets can be found on the respective regional public transport authority's website.
      3. When purchasing a ticket with Mälartåg or when buying a Movingo ticket via other parties' channels, the relevant party's terms and conditions apply.

The terms of purchase enter into force from the day they are published on mälartåg.se and apply to purchases completed after this date. The conditions may be supplemented or replaced by special terms of purchase for certain types of tickets and services that Mälardalstrafik provides.

1.3 Are you under the age of 18, then a parental consent is required to buy a ticket.

1.4 When purchasing a ticket, you as a customer (passenger or contact person) are responsible for ensuring that the order is correct. It is therefore important to check the information in the order prior to making the purchase.

1.5 When purchasing a trip with Mälartåg in Mälardalstrafik's sales channels, you as a customer agree to Mälardalstrafik's general travel conditions. The current version of the Travel Terms and Conditions is available at malartag.se/en.

1.6 Seats cannot be pre-booked on Mälartåg. Seats are available subject to availability. Mälardalstrafik reserves the right to limit the number of passengers on the train for safety reasons or when it is prescribed by law or regulation.

2. Tickets

2.1 Which tickets are valid on board Mälartåg can be read from Mälardalstrafik's description of the range of tickets at malartag/en/tickets/.

2.2 Mälartåg single ticket is valid for a specific departure and route with Mälartåg. If the departure is cancelled or replaced with a bus, the ticket is also valid for the next departure with Mälartåg or designated replacement traffic service.

2.3 A combined ticket which is valid for a number of consecutive journeys with Mälartåg that all have a distance longer than 150 kilometres is considered a Direct ticket. For Direct tickets there is an extended right to rebooking and reimbursement in the event of delays as well as handling missed connections.

2.4 Tickets sold on mälartåg.se and in the Mälartåg app are not personal.

2.5 In the Mälartåg app, tickets are sold tickets for mobile devices.

3. Payment

3.1 In Mälardalstrafik's sales channels, customers can pay with Swish or credit card. Please note that Mälardalstrafik does not manage the technical platforms for payment. The payment services are provided by Nordea for Swish and from Worldline for credit cards.

3.2 For customers who are connected, the payment can be made with Swish. Open the Swish app on the mobile device and approve the payment via mobile Bank ID. More information is available at swish.nu.

3.3 Paying with Swish or credit card, the customer is charged directly.

3.4 Payment is made in Swedish kronor (SEK), including VAT 6%.

 

4. Receipt and delivery

4.1 Receipts and tickets are delivered digitally in the Mälartåg app or as a PDF file. Ticket delivered as a PDF file can be viewed in a browser, as an e-mail attachment on screen or printed on paper.

 

5. Passenger categories

5.1 The passenger pays full price from the day the passenger turns 20 years old, provided that the passenger is not entitled to travel at a discounted price.

5.2 The following categories of passengers are entitled to travel at a discounted price:

      • Youth: Youth is a passenger from the age of 7 up to and including the age of 19.
      • Student: A student is a passenger studying with at least 75% study rate.

5.3 At the ticket check, the passenger must be able to prove their identity by providing a valid ID document. Valid ID documents are passports, Swedish ID documents, the Migration Agency's LMA card and national ID cards within the EU. Other foreign ID documents are not accepted. Accompanying children do not need to provide present an ID document, except in cases where the child's age needs to be verified.

5.4 Students journeying on a discounted ticket must be able to certify their studies with a valid student ID with the SL symbol.

 

6. Travel with children

6.1 Two children up to and including 6 years of age travel free of charge in the company of a passenger with a valid ticket. If the passenger has more children up to and including 6 years old on the journey, the excess number of children travels at a discounted price for youth.

6.2 For safety reasons, children under the age of 7 may not travel alone on Mälartåg. Mälardalstrafik does not assume any special responsibility for unaccompanied children.

7. Rebooking and repurchase

7.1 Passenger can rebook their ticket for another departure. Rebooking can be done no later than one hour before the ticket's departure time and only for the same route and passenger category as the original ticket. Please contact Mälartåg customer service for rebooking.

7.2 Mälartåg single tickets cannot, as a general rule, be repurchased. Passenger who has become acutely ill and cannot complete their journey can have their ticket refunded on presentation of a medical certificate. The same applies in the event of death or the death of a close relative. Contact Mälartåg customer service to repurchase a ticket. Receipt must be provided when repurchasing. Repurchase must take place before the ticket's departure time.

8. Customer responsibility

8.1 Customer is responsible for any traffic fees charged by the telecommunications operator for sending or receiving data and/or text messages when registering and using Mälardalstrafik's sales channels.

8.2 Passenger using a mobile device as a ticket holder is responsible for the functioning of the mobile device (has a charged battery, is compatible with the web pages or apps required to display the ticket, etc.) during the entire journey. The ticket must be provided in the mobile device throughout the journey.

9. Mälardalstrafik's responsibility for the mobile app

9.1 In the Mälartåg app sells Mälartåg single tickets as an app ticket for mobile devices. The app is downloaded via the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android) by searching for "Mälartåg".

9.2 Mälardalstrafik does not guarantee that the Mälartåg app will work or that the customer can purchase a ticket. However, Mälardalstrafik strives to remedy any errors in the service as soon as possible.

9.3 Mälardalstrafik assumes no responsibility for technical problems which may arise with another party, such as problems with internet access, technical problems with payment service providers, technical problems with the customer's mobile phone or the like.

10. Abuse and blocking of services

10.1 Mälardalstrafik reserves the right to cancel the entered agreement in regard to the purchase of a ticket and choose not to enter into a new agreement for the purchase of a ticket with a passenger if the they are guilty of serious misconduct or repeatedly fails to comply with the provisions of Mälardalstrafik's general travel conditions and/or does not take correction after request from Mälardalstrafik.

10.2 Mälardalstrafik reserves the right to block a service in whole or in part without prior notice if there is suspicion of unauthorized use or abuse of the service, or if Mälardalstrafik, on the basis of technical, security or other grounds, deems that this should be done in order to protect the interests of Mälardalstrafik, the customer or other parties.

10.3 All types of fraud, fraudulent purchases or falsely entered information are considered abuse. Abuse may be reported to the police. In case of abuse, tickets may be cancelled.

11. Dispute resolution

11.1 Customers who are dissatisfied with Mälardalstrafik's actions or have claims against Mälardalstrafik are primarily recommended to contact Mälartåg customer service. Contact details can be seen from malartag.se/en/customer-service/.

11.2 If the parties cannot agree, the customer has the right to have the dispute tried through alternative dispute resolution in the General Complaints Board (ARN).

Mälardalstrafik's policy is to follow ARN's recommendations.

11.3 Other in regard to the terms of purchase must be settled by a Swedish general court.

12. Processing of personal data

12.1 When purchasing a ticket in Mälardalstrafik's sales channels, Mälardalstrafik processes the customer's personal data. During processing of personal data at malardalstrafik.se/en information is accessible on how Mälardalstrafik handles personal data and on the rights of data subjects in accordance with to the applicable data protection legislation.
