Personal and non-personal tickets

Tickets can be both personal and non-personal. A personal ticket is only valid for the named passenger.

Seat Reservation

Seat reservations are not available on Mälartåg. Seating is subject to availability.

Single Tickets

Mälartåg Single Ticket

Valid for travel on Mälartåg. The ticket is non-personal and valid for a specific departure and route. The ticket is sold in the Mälartåg app and via mälartåg.se. If the departure is canceled or replaced by a bus, the ticket is also valid on the next Mälartåg departure or designated replacement traffic.

Direct Tickets

A continuous ticket valid for multiple consecutive train journeys, each with a distance longer than 150 kilometers, is considered a Direct Ticket. For example, a journey with Mälartåg between Örebro and Linköping with a transfer to another Mälartåg in Eskilstuna. Direct Tickets have an extended right to rebooking and compensation for delays, as well as handling missed connections.

Resplus and Pre-purchased Single Tickets

Resplus and Pre-purchased Single tickets are valid for travel on Mälartåg. The ticket is personal and valid for a specific departure and route. The tickets are sold through the national ticket collaboration Resplus and are available in two categories: Non-refundable and Refundable. For Resplus tickets, a Kom-Fram-Garanti (Arrive Guarantee) is offered in case of disruptions. Resplus tickets are valid for travel on Mälartåg in combination with another operator. For example, a journey between Eskilstuna and Gothenburg with a transfer between Mälartåg and SJ or MTRX express trains in Katrineholm. UL Single Ticket

All UL Single Tickets are valid for travel on Mälartåg. The ticket is non-personal and valid for an unlimited number of journeys within the valid time period in each zone. The ticket is sold in the UL app and via ul.se.

Östgötatrafiken Single Ticket

All Östgötatrafiken Single Tickets are valid for travel on Mälartåg. The ticket is non-personal and valid for an unlimited number of journeys within the valid time period in each zone. The ticket is sold in Östgötatrafiken's app and via ostgotatrafiken.se.

X-trafik Single Ticket

X-trafik Single Tickets are valid for travel on Mälartåg between Gävle and Furuvik if the ticket is valid for Gävle city (zone F1) - Gävle municipality (zone F) or has regional validity. X-trafik tickets cannot be used as partial payment for travel south of Furuvik.

Period tickets

Movingo 5/30

• Movingo 5/30 is valid for travel on Mälartåg on the specified route*.
• The ticket is non-personal and valid for an unlimited number of trips on a specific route during 5 consecutive 24-hour periods within 30 days.
• The ticket is sold in the Movingo app and via movingobiljett.se. The ticket can be purchased earliest 15 days before the first valid date.
• The ticket is valid for travel on the routes and stations specified on the ticket.
• The ticket is valid on Mälartåg, Tåg i Bergslagen, Trosabussen, and all local public transport operated by SL, Sörmlandstrafiken, UL, VL, Länstrafiken Örebro, and Östgötatrafiken.
• 24-hour tickets can be activated from 00:00 on the first valid day until 23:59 on the 30th valid day, provided that there are remaining sub-tickets to activate.
• A 24-hour ticket activated on the last valid day ceases to be valid at 04:30 the night after the last valid day of the main ticket.
• The terms and conditions of respective transport operators apply.
• The ticket can only be used by one person and cannot be transferred between different mobile devices.

*Tickets for longer distances, such as Katrineholm-Stockholm and Örebro-Stockholm, are valid on all Mälartåg lines and all local transport in the entire Mälardalen region.

Movingo 30, 90, and 365 days

The ticket is non-personal and valid for an unlimited number of trips on a specific route during the duration of the ticket. The ticket is sold:

• through Movingo app and via movingobiljett.se
• through external channels via SJ app and via sj.se
• The ticket can be purchased earliest 15 days before the first valid date.
• The ticket is valid for travel on the routes and stations specified on the ticket.
• The ticket is valid on Mälartåg, SJs train departures with Movingo validity, Trosabussen, Tåg i bergslagen within Västmanland, Örebro, and Östergötland counties, and all local transport operated by SL, Sörmlandstrafiken, UL, VL, Länstrafiken Örebro, and Östgötatrafiken.
• The ticket is valid from 00:00 on the first valid day until 04:30 on the night after the last valid day of the ticket.
• The terms and conditions of respective transport operators apply.
• The ticket can be shared between different individuals by transferring the ticket between different mobile devices.
• The ticket can be transferred once every 24 hours.
• The ticket can only be used by one person at a time.

SJ Annual Pass and SJ Recriutment card with Resplus

SJ Årskort Silver, Silver plus, and Guld with Resplus supplement are valid for travel on Mälartåg. The ticket is valid for an unlimited number of trips during the days the ticket is valid. The ticket is sold through all SJ channels except SJ app.

SJ Resplus supplement and SJ Recriutment card with Resplus supplement are valid for travel on Mälartåg. The ticket is valid for an unlimited number of trips during the days the ticket is valid. Starting from December 2022, the SL part of the Resplus supplement can be shown as a digital ticket in the SJ app, while the ticket for Mälartåg, SJ, and other validities will continue to be a physical travel card.

Interrail and Eurail

Interrail and Eurail are valid for travel on Mälartåg. The ticket is valid for an unlimited number of trips in Europe during the days the ticket is valid. The ticket is personal. The ticket is sold through various channels, including europarunt.se, interrail.se/en, and eurail.com/en.

Sörmlandstrafiken period ticket

Sörmlandstrafiken's Period ticket 30 days and Årskort are valid for travel on Mälartåg. The ticket is valid for an unlimited number of trips during the days the ticket is valid within the respective zone. The ticket is non-personal. The ticket is sold in Sörmlandstrafiken's app and via sormlandstrafiken.se, as well as at Sörmlandstrafiken's agents.

Sörmlandstrafiken's school seasonal ticket (Skolbiljett) is valid for travel on Mälartåg. The ticket is personal and valid on weekdays during the term. The ticket is valid for a limited number of trips per day.

UL period ticket

All UL period tickets are valid for travel on Mälartåg. The ticket is valid for an unlimited number of trips during the days the ticket is valid within the respective zone. The ticket is non-personal. The ticket is sold in UL's app and ul.se, as well as at UL's agents.

UL School ticket (skolkort) is a period ticket and is valid on Mälartåg.

VL period ticket

VL Periodbiljett 30 days is valid for travel on Mälartåg. The ticket is valid for an unlimited number of trips during the days the ticket is valid within the respective municipality or county. The travel card should be validated on the platform before boarding. The loading receipt should be able to be presented. The ticket is non-personal. The ticket is sold on vl.se, as well as at VL's agents.

VL School ticket (Skolbiljett) is valid for travel on Mälartåg. The requirement for a loading receipt does not apply to school cards.

Östgötatrafiken period ticket

All Östgötatrafiken period tickets are valid for travel on Mälartåg. The ticket is valid for an unlimited number of trips during the days the ticket is valid within the respective zone. The ticket is non-personal. The ticket is sold on ostgotatrafiken.se, as well as at Östgötatrafiken's agents.

X-trafik period ticket

X-trafik's 24-hour tickets, 30-day ticket, and Annual tickets are valid for travel on Mälartåg between Gävle and Furuvik if the ticket is valid for Gävle city (zone F1) - Gävle municipality (zone F) or has county validity. X-trafik's Seniorbiljett, 65+ Gävle-biljett, Leisure ticket (Fritidsbiljett), and School ticket (Skolbiljett) are also valid on this route. X-trafik's tickets cannot be used as partial payment for travel south of Furuvik.
